Gone with the Wind
I’ll just go ahead and put it out there. I can’t stand the character of Scarlett O’Hara. I get why her character has stood the test of time, especially knowing when this movie was released. Even today, you don’t see strong female leads like her who are unapologetic for their pursuits and desires in life.
Dear Evan Hansen
The songs and melodies are terrific to listen to, but this movie is a disservice to their quality. There is no imagination surrounding the performances, which means that in a musical, the story better be stellar.
Barbarian
Why do horror movies keep ruining good things? I'm not an avid user of Airbnb, but now I'm going to check every crevice of my future rentals before settling in. Director Zach Cregger does a masterful job of playing with your expectations and he unravels this twisted tale in inventive and curious ways.
Dirty Dancing
Though I don't have quite as an emotional relationship with Dirty Dancing as a lot of my friends (or wife), you can't deny its charm.
Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn't Exist
If Te'o's participation in this documentary was to convince you how and why he formed this "fake" relationship, I appreciate his bravery behind that decision because I now look at this story in a different light.
The Youth Governor
This documentary hit close to home. My wife is the state director for the YMCA Oklahoma Youth and Government program, so I have experience with this program as a volunteer and an employee of the Y.
Houseguest
Houseguest was one of those movies that I loved as a teenager. I always thought Sinbad was hilarious, and who doesn't love Phil Hartman? I saw this pop up on Hulu and immediately wanted to engage.
Look Both Ways
Look Both Ways has an interesting premise, although not new. It's a pleasant ride. The story is simple and the characters are relatable but by the end, I couldn't quite understand why it took almost two hours of runtime to get to its ultimate conclusion.
The Lost City
Maybe I should have lowered my expectations for The Lost City. It appeared as a blatant rip-off of Romancing the Stone, but I was okay with that because I liked the idea of Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in the same film together.
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is probably one of the most adorable things that you’ll ever see. But don't let the genuine cuteness of this start-stop animation mockumentary fool you. It's full of heartfelt emotional depth and this little one-inch-tall shell embodies the struggles that our society has gone through the past couple of years.
House of Gucci
It's fun to see how everything unfolds, although it's far from perfect. And when Al Pacino is one of the more grounded actors in the story, you know that says a lot about the ridiculousness that is shown by others. But somehow it is a fun mess to behold.
Lawrence of Arabia
Lawrence of Arabia is a tremendous portrait of leadership and serves as a warning to those who are so willing to lead others into battle.
The Worst Person in the World
It takes a moment to fully appreciate the character of Julie (the fantastic) Renate Reinsve) in The Worst Person in the World. She's a character that very much exists in this world that we often don't get to see on screen.
Ski Patrol
It's funny when you revisit a movie from your youth. I probably haven't seen Ski Patrol since I was ten. Up to this point, I couldn't have told you what happened in this movie, but as I rewatched this movie, it was incredible how many memories came flooding back.
