Houseguest

"HOUSEGUST" SINBAD, PHIL HARTMAN

★ ★★

Houseguest was one of those movies that I loved as a teenager. I always thought Sinbad was hilarious, and who doesn't love Phil Hartman? I saw this pop up on Hulu and immediately wanted to engage. Of course, I had to involve my kids so they could experience the joy that I had experienced with this movie.

You never know how these nostalgic films of your past will hold up and Houseguest held up better than expected. Is it completely dumb and farfetched? Of course. So many comedies from the '90s were. But I counted it as a win that my whole family enjoyed it. They probably won't be clamoring to watch it again, but it had enough silly situations and comedic fish-out-of-water moments that they had a good time. If anything, it's fast-paced and it moves along, so it never failed to capture their attention. Now I just need to work on getting that dang Camp Maple Ridge song out of my head.
