Dirty Dancing
★ ★★ ½
Though I don't have quite as an emotional relationship with Dirty Dancing as a lot of my friends (or wife), you can't deny its charm. There are plenty of cheesy moments and I don't know if I can ever get over those God-awful black and white credit scenes, but it's a movie that creates an undeniable connection. Whether it's the soundtrack or the steamy chemistry between Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze, it's a movie that smolders with sexiness. I think people forget about how progressive it was for tackling the issue of abortion and I appreciated the portrayal of Baby's relationship with her father. But it's understandable that you forget all of this when Swayze's abs are constantly being flashed in front of your face.
The classic montages and dance scenes are unforgettable and in the moment you understand why this movie is so iconic. Don't get me wrong, there are moments where this movie is laughably bad, but I can completely forget about those scenes because Dirty Dancing has one of the best endings to a movie, ever. How can you not be won over by the lift?
