The Cutting Edge
The Cutting Edge is a movie that is perfectly made for a laid back weekend morning. Is it cheesy? Yes. Does it seem dated? Yes. Do you stop and watch it when you are flipping the channels? Most definitely yes.
The Big Lebowski
Only the Coen brothers could create a movie that has deep philosophical questions about nihilism and capitalism wrapped up into a crime caper with a stoned hippie as the protagonist.
Murder Mystery 2
I am happy to say that Murder Mystery 2 outshines the first installment, though, not by much.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
To All the Boys I've Loved Before succeeds in its simplicity. Lara Jean's (Lana Condor) unsent love letters are the MacGuffin for an absurd, yet plausible, teen romance with an extremely likable cast.
10 Things I Hate About You
It's hard not to watch 10 Things I Hate About You with a smile on your face. It has an even balance of a rom-com and a coming of age tale, and when done correctly, is a formula that can easily appeal to a mass audience.
Triangle of Sadness
Did Bernie Sanders write the Triangle of Sadness screenplay? This film is a dark satire about the rich that is a bit too clever for its own good.
Your Place or Mine
In Your Place or Mine, the romantic chemistry is supposed to lie in a twenty-year "friendship" in where we get no glimpse.
(500) Days of Summer
(500) Days of Summer perfectly encapsulates how twenty-somethings view and contextualize romance.
Somebody I Used to Know
I didn't know Alison Brie could be unlikable, but her character in Somebody I Used to Know is someone that you never root for.
You People
I didn't mind You People as a concept. There are some funny moments and one-liners, but the problem is that if you want to be a rom-com, there has to be romantic chemistry between the leads.
The Woman King
The Woman King feels like a throwback epic action film that reminded me of Gladiator or Braveheart with, well, more women.
The Redeem Team
I remember the narrative surrounding The Redeem Team and how much pressure was put on this team's shoulders and I enjoyed getting more of an inside look into the psyche of the players and coaches.
