The Fall Guy
★★★★ 1/2
The Fall Guy is one of the most entertaining movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a joyful throwback to the '90s action films that shaped my love for cinema, wrapped up in a fun, meta commentary on the film industry itself. What’s truly impressive is how it balances this homage without ever becoming pretentious—it's all about having a good time.
The film excels from both a stunt and intellectual perspective, yet it never loses its charm and humor. Ryan Gosling absolutely owns the screen, making it clear that this is more his movie than Emily Blunt's. It's a bit surprising at first, but Gosling's performance is a revelation—he might just be one of our best comedic actors right now.
Whitney and I caught this gem just before it left theaters, and I’m so glad we did. The big screen experience added an extra layer of excitement. Whitney, who isn’t usually a fan of action movies, found enough humor and romance to keep her entertained.
This film epitomizes the summer blockbuster. It’s a shame it didn’t make a bigger splash at the box office because it has all the ingredients of a crowd-pleaser. Despite being based on an old TV series, it feels fresh and original, packed with action, laugh, and a hint of romance. It’s the perfect package for all audiences.
I didn’t expect to enjoy The Fall Guy as much as I did. It’s not the most intellectually challenging film, but it’s smartly made and fully aware of its own strengths. It’s not quite a five-star film for me—the end credits sequence gets a bit too goofy—but I dare anyone not to have fun with this movie. It’s one of my favorites of the year, and I’m already looking forward to watching it again.
