Encino Man

Sean Astin, Brendan Fraser, and Pauly Shore in Encino Man (1992)

★★★

Encino Man may not be a timeless classic, but it sure knows how to serve up a heap of goofy fun. The plot is undeniably absurd and the humor delightfully dumb, yet it all adds up to an entertaining ride. Brendan Fraser shines as the fish-out-of-water caveman, foreshadowing his future as a leading man, while Sean Astin and Pauly Shore deliver a dynamic duo act that keeps the laughs coming. Shore's catchphrases are so ridiculous they stick with you long after the credits roll. Despite its flaws and Dave's borderline psychopathic quest for popularity, the film's nostalgic charm makes it a lovable, albeit silly, blast from the past. Perfect for a light-hearted family movie night.
