Argentina, 1985

Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani in Argentina, 1985 (2022)

★★★ ½

I can clearly see how Argentina, 1985 can be more impactful the more you know or lived through the political unrest that this film explores. If you love courtroom dramas, you'll eat this film up. It's a great behind-the-scenes look at the hard work that it takes to win an important and crucial trial case, especially the one of this magnitude. This film has to cover a lot of ground and does a great job of telling a complex story in a concise way. In particular, Ricardo Darín is magnificent as the lead prosecutor who is given an impossible task. As a fan of legal dramas, the beats and cadence of this film were all too familiar. This is a very slick film that lets the story do the heavy lifting and rightfully so. It's a true underdog story and it's important for Americans to see these international real-life stories are just as important as our own.
