No Hard Feelings
★★★ 1/2
Despite No Hard Feelings being advertised as an extremely raunchy sex comedy, there is an inherent sweetness at its core that made me enjoy this film quite a bit. Though the plot of overprotective parents pitching to Jennifer Lawrence's character to "date" their sheltered son (played by a marvelous Andrew Barth Feldman) is even a little too far-fetched for a sex comedy, I found this film to be pretty funny.
Lawrence and Feldman find a unique chemistry that I haven't quite seen before where friendship is the ultimate victor. You can tell that Lawrence is having a lot of fun with the role and does a good job of creating a character that I believe would exist in this world. Feldman is adorable and perfectly portrays the more sensitive teenager that you find in today's high schools. Unfortunately, the film starts to lose steam during its two-hour runtime and starts relying on rehashed jokes to garner its laughs. It really has a good thing going but too often relies on sight gags instead of trusting the story to carry it through.
Totally unrealistic? Completely.
Can I see why theater-goers were disappointed? Certainly. This is a movie made for streaming.
Was I emotionally invested and literally laughed out loud? Afraid so.
