How to Blow Up a Pipeline
★★★★
How to Blow Up a Pipeline is one of the most straightforward films that you'll experience. It's simple in its premise but fascinating in how it unravels its storyline. Director Daniel Goldhaber embodies the spirit of this group of mostly strangers who assemble together to take down a corporation's pipeline that has affected their lives in personal ways. Goldhaber does a whole lot with a little and tells a story that is relevant to our modern times. The use of editing is particular strong in how it builds tension with the explosives that these inexperienced youth have to handle, along with giving us glimpses of their backstories. I'm interested to know how others would view the criminal acts that take place in this film because I was a bit surprised by how strong of a stance the film takes with its characters. By the time it gets to the end credits, there's no denying where the film stands. I personally thought the film would have made a stronger point with a little more ambiguity, but we no longer live in a world where you can float in the gray. If you weren't aware of that, this film makes sure that you are prepared for that harsh truth.
