Fair Play
★★★★
Fair Play will make you think twice about working together with your partner. I really found myself enraptured in the unraveling of the relationship between Emily (Phoebe Dynevor) and Luke (Alden Ehrenreich) as the two navigate promotions and investments in a highly competitive hedge fund. The tension is always simmering and I couldn't help but think of other erotic thrillers like Fatal Attraction. Director/writer Chloe Domont does a wonderful job of creating a narrative where I never could quite guess how far each character would go in their pursuit of their profession and/or their relationship. As the chords unravel, we are delightfully on the edge of our seats while Domont forces us to contemplate the power in gender and sex dynamics in our current world. Though I was a bit letdown by the ending and was a little annoyed at the convenience of Emily's mother to the plot, Fair Play is a delectable workplace suspense with powerful performance from Dyneovr and Ehrenreich. One thing is for sure, I was not built for the hedge fund industry.
