Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)

Gabrielle Union, Zach Braff, Erika Christensen, Simeon Othello Daise, and Leo Abelo Perry in Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)

★ ★ ½

I have never seen the other reiterations of Cheaper by the Dozen, so I had absolutely no expectations except to have a fun viewing experience with my family. Did this 2022 version provide that? Certainly. But man, this movie was all over the place. It suffers from trying to do way too much. It tries to make statements about class, race, co-parenting and a litany of other life lessons that a film can't give enough time to. So the scenes often seem rushed and aren't given any time to take a breath.

I did completely enjoy the vibe of the film and Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union are actually very good. They know exactly what kind of tone to give their performances and as silly as the whole concept is, they do their best to make their scenarios believable. I usually don't say this, but this movie would work much, much better as a series. This movie ultimately doesn't have a lot to say even though it tries really hard to do so. Plus, it really, really bothered me that this family owns and runs a successful breakfast eatery but never seems to be there. And if they are there, it looks like it is well past noon when they arrive.
