Babes

Michelle Buteau and Ilana Glazer in Babes (2024)

★★★ 1/2

Whitney and I caught Babes in theaters this summer while our girls were away at camp. It wasn’t our first pick, but it turned out to be a delightful indie comedy that exceeded our expectations. The film stars two actresses I hadn't seen before—Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau —but their chemistry is undeniable and makes them a perfect duo for the lead roles.

Babes dives into the complexities of maintaining close friendships when family priorities shift. It’s a funny, heartfelt exploration of how these changes impact relationships. The humor is spot-on, and the supporting cast adds extra charm. I didn’t expect to enjoy this film as much as I did, but now I’m eager to see more from these actresses.

If you enjoy indie comedies that blend laughs with genuine moments, Babes is worth checking out. It’s rare to find such gems in big cinemas like Regal or AMC, so I’m glad we had the chance to support it on the big screen.
