UNTOLD: Johnny Football
★★★★
I remember the era of Johnny Football like it was yesterday. Mainly because I had an Aggie friend who would not stop talking about him during Johnny Manziel's unprecedented freshman, Heisman-winning year. His historic rise and fall is fascinating, especially if you are a fan of college football. Like a lot of sports documentaries, I felt like there was a lot left unsaid that I was pining to know more about. That said, this is a tight documentary that moves at a great pace and seems very credible, especially considering that Manziel seems pretty honest and forthright about his own story. It definitely falls in line with his personality.
I don't think you have to be a football fan to appreciate this documentary. It's an amazing portrait of how great talent can go to waste. Manziel has a lot to blame for his downfall, but it's easy to see how quickly that can happen when establishments look to profit off of such young talent. I don't blame him for thinking he was untouchable. He did everything he could to push the boundaries and nobody could stop him, except for himself.
