Palm Springs

Palm Springs is my favorite type of movie. It's a romantic comedy that blends laughs, science fiction and thoughtfulness perfectly. Also, what an oddly relevant movie for our current chaotic times? I was worried about the theme of being stuck in a time-loop would be way too similar to another favorite of mine, Groundhog's Day. But this movie was able to take that trope and totally reinvent it, especially by giving the female role (a brilliant Cristin Milioti) equal billing. This is her film as much as Andy Samberg's and it was exciting to see both gender roles have storylines of equal importance.
I've always been a huge fan of the Lonely Island crew, but this film is a step up in their comedic prowess. It still contains the crude humor and physical gags you come to expect, but they have been able to bottle up their goofiness into a thoughtful movie that is challenging, but also entertaining. I know this film probably won't be recognized in any Best Picture circles, but for me, it's a film that has very few faults and something that I could watch again in a heartbeat. I hope it can break outside the Hulu audience and find a bigger audience.
