Michael Clayton

George Clooney in Michael Clayton (2007)

★ ★★★★

What is our place in this world and are we willing to risk everything to be on the right side of history? Michael Clayton does a masterful job of posing deep philosophical questions in the disguise of a legal thriller. Tony Gilroy's script about a fixer who gets caught up in a shady corporate class-action suit is strong enough on its own, but its willingness to dive into struggles that every human faces on a daily basis are what makes it still hold up today.

George Clooney plays his role perfectly as the rogue lawyer who is at odds with his place in his shady world. The audience completely can empathize with his moral quandaries and I found myself constantly asking myself what would I do if I was Michael Clayton. The script is supported by amazing performances by Tilda Swinton, Tom Wilkinson and Sydney Pollack who play their characters with unforgettable nuances. The film is perfectly paced and perhaps has two of the best endings to a movie ever. Michael Clayton is sneaky good and like a good wine, will just age better over time.
