Leo

Adam Sandler in Leo (2023)

★★★

Even though Leo is not even close in the pantheon of great animated films, it's one of the funniest that I've seen in a long time. It's no wonder that a film to come out of Happy Madison productions is a little rough around the edges. The animation in itself isn't spectacular, but this movie will surprise you with it's criticism of modern parenting and technology.

Adam Sandler reaches into the well to pull out his old-man voice for the 74-year-old lizard and you can tell that he enjoys verbally sparring with Bill Burr who is the turtle that accompanies Leo in the classroom reptile tank. The life lessons that are learned aren't anything new and the whole thing starts to drag for a shorter movie, but you'll be surprised by the musical numbers and witty punchlines. Like most Adam Sandler produced-films, you can tell that all involved are having a real good time, and that somehow still comes through in the world of animation. Families will have a really good time watching this Netflix film together.
