It’s What’s Inside

★★★★

It’s What’s Inside might just be one of the most entertaining films I’ve seen this year. Sure, it’s not flawless, but it has this undeniable charm that would make it a favorite for younger audiences. If I’d seen this in high school or college, I can already imagine gathering friends to rewatch it over and over.

This film clearly aims to captivate younger viewers with its unique body-swap thriller concept that comes with an infectious energy. The writer and director Greg Jardin fully embraces the fun of the premise, leaning into the suspense and tension rather than diving deep into heavy themes. And it works! The editing style, too, adds a lively edge without feeling overdone, balancing perfectly between enhancing the thrills and keeping things light.

As for the story, there’s quite a bit of backstory to unpack, especially with all the "close friends" playing mind games. But it’s crafted in a way that, even if you lose track here and there, you’re still pulled along for the ride. One of the film’s coolest aspects? Watching the actors portray their characters while also embodying another character in someone else’s body—it’s like a mafia-style guessing game. You’re constantly trying to figure out who’s who and what everyone’s true motives are.

The big reveals—when you finally find out who’s in whose body—are spot-on, adding a new twist each time and keeping the suspense fresh. This film has that nostalgic feel of high school thrillers like Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer, minus the gore, making it a perfect fit for the spooky season without going too dark.

If you’re craving something thrilling with a bit of a Halloween vibe but nothing too sinister, It’s What’s Inside is a fun choice. And honestly, I can’t wait to see what Greg Jardin comes up with next. Hopefully, it’s a film that won’t get lost in the streaming shuffle because this one deserves the spotlight.
