How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)

★ ★★ ½

Just as Andie Anderson slowly wears down Ben Berry into loving her, over the years I have started to like this movie more and more. It's still hard for me to get over its ridiculous premise, but the chemistry between Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey is undeniable. It's hard to decipher if their spontaneous, flirtatious beats are scripted or genuine moments between the actors. Just like their characters, the two leads command any room that they walk in, and you can't help but watch either of them in admiration.

It's gotten to the point that throughout the film I'm anticipating scenes that are about to come up, like the Knicks basketball game or the guy's poker night or the card game with Ben's family. It's not a perfect movie, but a very entertaining one. This movie knows what it is and plays to the strengths of the rom-com tropes, which makes it more rewatchable each time that I watch it with my wife and girls.
