Hocus Pocus 2

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy in Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)

★ ★★

My review for Hocus Pocus 2 is a little skewed. As a 41-year-old man, did I enjoy Hocus Pocus 2? Eh, it was okay, but when I polled my daughters and their friends, this movie was off the charts for them.

Hocus Pocus 2 is a great family viewing experience. It's quirky, fun and all the actors involved seemed like they were having fun. That energy jumps off the screen and perhaps makes this sequel more watchable than it needs to be. I don't have personal ties to the original, so I can't quite inject myself into the camps that are passionate about their severe enjoyment or dislike of this film. I can easily see that if you have built up this release in your head that it may come off as a disappointment, but I appreciated some stellar jokes and the particular performances from Bette Midler and my man, Tony Hale.

If you throw this one on with your family, you will be pleasantly surprised, but I can't see anyone really wanting to watch this on their own. It definitely requires a communal experience during the month of October.
