Family Switch
★★ 1/2
I have always enjoyed the body-swap genre of comedy and when I first saw promos for this film, I was genuinely excited because I like Ed Helms and Jennifer Garner so much. The whole film feels a bit rushed because there are moments that really work and others that don't at all.
Family Switch ends up squandering its talent because all involved do a great job of carrying their "new" bodies. Emma Myers and Brady Noon are terrific playing off of Helms and Garner, but their individual plots never provided much interest. The special effects gags with the dog and the baby never worked for me, although it had my eight-year-old rolling on the floor laughing, so what do I know?
Family Switch will be a fun film to throw up for the family during the holidays, but unfortunately it will be quickly forgotten. Which is a shame, because it had the building blocks to be a lot more fun than it ends up being. Also, this film doesn't help my case in explaining to my children why Weezer is a good band.
